Deep Dive Questions

These Questions Are For Our WA Senators’ Staffers

More about this: FAQs. Please add a question or two for the next week: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1TNgGGVFyXCt4Djf19ZDmUbCHyP1kx-JUzmkveAnrKuM/edit. Limit of 6 questions a week. It is first come first served. Questions over and above 6 will be deferred.

Week 7/3/18

No meeting

Week 6/26/18

No questions this week: the narrative has totally hinged on the treatment of immigrants, and deep dive questions have not been applicable. This is too urgent.

Week 6/18/18

1/ Can our senators please be more vocal in support of Mueller’s investigation and attacks on our democracy? I am glad that Sen. Murray wants to protect elections in 2020 with the The Protecting American Votes and Elections Act. We need to protect the midterms too. This administration is immediately dangerous.

2/ What can our senators do about the DACA program?

From 6/12/18

1/ What actions is Sen. Murray taking now to lower prescription drug prices?
In Jan. 2017, our senators voted against more inexpensive drugs coming from Canada: SeattleTimes.com: and now Sen. Murray is not cosponsoring S. 469, the latest bill to achieve this: but Sen. Cantwell is.

From the previous legislative issue about this: “Quality is not an illegitimate argument,” said Peter Maybarduk, director of Public Citizen’s Access to Medicines Program. “However, our experience counsels that it sometimes is a fig leaf for protecting pharma profits, and that issue shouldn’t be ignored as well.”: SeattleTimes.com

Sen. Cantwell has cosponsored S. 469: why not Sen. Murray?

2/ What are our senators doing to continue to pressure Scott Pruitt’s corruption and poor ethics?

3/ Can you please give us politics 101 on which kinds of bills go through a CRA, unanimous voice vote, or need appropriations before they can be voted on?

4/ What can you do to fight Trump’s abuse of the Presidential pardon? Recently he pardoned Dinesh D’Souza, another republican convicted of the very crimes Trump and his associates are under investigation for.

5/ What are our senators planning to do about the tariffs that this administration is putting in place? What can they do?

6/ How much will Medicare premiums have to go up in 2019 to make up for the $25bn cut from the tax scam? What can our senators do?

From 6/5/18

Their responses
we need to get better at asking the questions so that there aren’t repeats each week. There were issues with getting through security this week; and we are just getting a system to ask the questions in the meeting. There will be less repeats ongoing.

1/ Can Senator Murray please cosponsor and support this bill to import and bring down the price of pharmaceuticals: S. 469 – if not, why not?

2/ Can our senators please speak out loudly against the Israeli attacks against the Palestinians?

3/ Please speak out publicly against the NFL rule that attempts to force patriotism. This is a very dangerous step toward authoritarian rule.

4/ What are our senators doing to move gun safety laws forward? We need fingerprint-activated trigger activation to ensure that those that own guns are the ones to use or authorize their use – and to feel responsible for them. Then: they can own many guns: and not have to actively secure them (because they will be secure); no one else can use their guns without authorization; and because they are responsible, it will be easier to legislate to keep them responsible. What will our senators do to move this or other safety measures forward?

5/ When can we have a call with a DC staffer on health care issues? The call will be where we can ask questions about the opioid crisis; the future of health care funding; funding issues ongoing; and what the staffer thinks about which areas are best to pressure for better health care for all of us.

6/ What are our senators doing to pressure the White House and ORR to prevent families from being separated at the southern border?

7/ We are having Lilly Adams of the Washington State arm of Physicians for Social Responsibility speak at the rally and she wants to join us for the meeting as well so I would appreciate it if you could prioritize getting her an answer by Tuesday if possible.

Her organization is advocating two bills that essentially make it more difficult to use nuclear weapons as a first strike option in North Korea.

The bills are SB 2047 & SB 2016. Will our senators join as co-sponsors to this legislation?

From 5/29/18

3/ What are our senators doing about the harmful separation of families at the border?
